Irony
-In the start Rainsford says,"who cares how a jaguar feels." But in the end he realizes what it is like to be hunted like a jaguar
-Zaroff keeps talking about how civil he is yet we learn that he hunts humans for sport
-Rainsford says to Whitney, " The world is made up of two classes of-the hunters and the hunted. Luckily, you and I are the hunters." In the end though, Rainsford becomes the hunted
Foreshadowing
-When Rainsford fist meets Zaroff, Zaroff says, "Ivan is a bit of a savage, like all his kind." Then we learn that Zaroff and Ivan are both Cossacks.
-Rainsford asks if Cannibals live on the island and Whitney replies," Hardly. Even cannibals wouldn't live in such a God-foresaken place." This tells you that something really bad is happening on the island
