Analysis of Characters
Whitney
-He seems like a normal person
-He has a bit of a conscience because he was thinking about how a jaguar would feel being hunted
-Not much is explained about him so I can't give a good analysis
-Whitney is going to Rio with Rainsford so he is just there to give backround information
-Whitney is a flat and round character because he isn't in the story long enough to change and he isn't described well
Ivan
-He is a gigantic man, very solidly built, with a black beard down to his waist, and probably strong because of his stature and job
-He answers only to General Zaroff
-His skill is with the knouter (a whip) and he helps General Zaroff with hunting humans
-He seems to be a very menacing man and the way the story portrays him, he has a bad temper
-Ivan is believable because the way his character is explained he seems he would do just that
-Ivan is a static person because he doesn't change and a relativally flat character because be isn't really described nor needed to do anything but be a servant
Sanger Rainsford
-He has good eyes as it says in the story, he is quite in shape because he could swim all the way to the island and in the end back to the mansion from the cliff he jumped off, and he is about the size of General Zaroff because Zaroff said Rainsford would find that the clothes fit
-Rainsford in the story is trying to first try to go hunting, then once he arrives at the mansion he tries to understand why a man would kill other humans for sport, and the last motive he has is to survive for three days with an incredible hunter, hunting him
-Rainsford is believable because he would do whatever anyone else in his position would do
-Rainsford is a little bit dynamic in the story. At the start he doesn't believe animals go through fear when being hunted, but in the end he knows the fear of being hunted. He is round because he is described in the story and because of what he says
General Zaroff
-General Zaroff, as it says in the story, is slightly over middle age, handsome, tall and slim, with white hair, bright black eyes, thick eyebrows,  a black military moustache, and sharp pointed teeth
-Zaroff is believable because he is described just like a normal person and there most likely have been people who killed for fun before and even now
-Zaroff's motive is to have the best hunting in the world so he doesn't get bored. He is always trying to find more and more challenging people
-Zaroff is a static character because he is always trying to do the samething the whole story. Untill he dies that is. He is a round character because he is described well and because of what he says

Setting
-The setting is on an island off the coast of the  U.S. in the Caribbean sea
-The island has a tropical forest on it and high cliffs
-There is a mansion on one corner of the island facing out to sea, just above a cliff
-The time perid could be anywhare from the 1800's to the future
-It is hard to tell what season it is in because it is in a tropical area
-There is no time nor date in the story because the author wants to build suspense by making you think it could happen to you

Tone, Atmosphere, and Mood
Tone
-The tone of the story (how the author feels about the story) is that killing men for sport is savage while Zaroff speaks of being very civil, so it shows you that sometimes people can get the wrong image of themselves
-Also, being able to reason can be better than instinct because it can help figure out how to get out of a problem and it gives you the winning power (the power to overcome an obstacale)
Atmosphere
-The atmosphere of this story(the surronding details that affect the mood and the tone) is the darkness in the story, the seclusion of the island, the denseness of the trees, the unreality of the situation, and that there is no given time so, this kind of thing could happen to anyone
Mood
-The mood of the story (how the audience feels) is that killing men for sport is very wrong because all humans have emotions and all lives should be respected
-Yet when someone is killing other people for the wrong reason, then people have to stop that person and that usually means killing them. Use World War Two for an example, Hitler was killing innocent people so, the Allied Forces had to stop him which meant killing soldiers that were under Hitlers power. The thing that Hitler was doing was wrong but killing people to stop him was right
